The Usual Shutter Specs was started in early 2011. The team behind the company were all enthusiastic amateur photographers. They had become frustrated at how difficult it was to get more unusal photography and camera accessories in the UK. More often than not it meant ordering abroad and from websites or suppliers that had an arrogant or unhelpful approach to customer service.

The ethos behind the company is in community, loyalty and listening to customers. Not just at the point of buying, but well before that too. Using the company's social media platforms and blog, it aims to engage with customers and learn what products they want to see on the site.
